Appreciation to Warren L. Burch, RMC (retired Navy, 1982) for providing the following Letter of Commendation for the period December 25, 1965 to January 16, 1966.
Mr. Burch was aboard the Calvert from August 1963 (as an RMSA, direct from boot camp and EM School) through to August 1966 (RM2). He remained in the Navy and retired in 1982 as an RMC (Chief).
This letter is further evidence of the USS Calvert’s time in DaNang, Vietnam related to crew members’ records for Agent Orange claims.
Additional information on Agent Orange claims can be found on this page as well: https://www.usscalvert.com/2013/08/23/uss-calvert-added-the-brown-water-ship-list-agent-orange-disability-claims/
I served with Warren on the Calvert coming aboard late Nov 1963 and departing in March 1966. I recall the accommodation letter he shared. I also recall the heavy work load our watch sections had during this period, lots of incoming and outgoing message traffic.
I see after reading my comment, I need to correct my spelling, commendation is what we received.
Would like for everyone to know that if you were on the “CT” during the above period, you qualify for
a VA benefit. I put in for mine in Jan 2020, was approved and I got my fist check, 365, in Mar…Also received a retroactive check for month of Feb..Put in for this with your area or regional VA rep. It will be approved.,
Good luck…RMC Burch, USN, RET
Warren:
So pleased to see you retired as RMC. I knew you as a Radioman RM3 and a great boxer aboard the USS Calvert.

Jack…So good to get a reply from you….Did you happen to marry one of the girls from
some college you wee dating at the time?//, tks Warren
Warren:
Apologies for the late reply. Yes I married a special girl from my college. We’re still married. She would travel with my mother and father to San Diego to see the Calvert arrive back at homeport. We met while in junior high school.
