My husband, Bill Hicks (Tabacco), died of asbestos lung cancer nine years ago. He had many memories, good and not so good, of his time on the Calvert. Thank you for remembering him.

MY NAME IS KEN (SKIPPER) KNUDSON. THE CALVERT WAS MY FIRST SHIP, AND I SPENT ABOUT 4+ YEARS
ON HER. I STARTED OUT IN 1ST DIVISION, THEN WENT TO 2ND DIVISION, THEN THE “NEW” BOAT GROUP
DIVISION, AND, FINALLY BACK TO 1ST DIVISION. I SERVED ONBD CALVERT FROM 1962 UNTILL DECOMM.
I LEFT THE SHIP IN HUNTER’S POINT SHIPYARD. SOME OF THE MEN I WORKED WITH WAS, BM2 (LATER BM1),

30 JUNE 1993 AS A BMC. IT WAS A GOOD RIDE, AND I WOULDN’T HAVE TRADED IT FOR ANYTHING.

Is there no one out there that served aboard Calvert, 1960-61. I cant be the only one or was she a ghost ship back then??? Does anyone remember the 1961 trip to Todd Shipyard in Seattle Washington and the storm we got into off the coast of San Francisco??? Gave us a longer than expected stay in the yards. Since I am from Tacoma Wa that stay was GREAT ,I got to sleep with girl friend most every night!!!!!
