Wanted to add Crew member Melvin Cheston passed away January 28th 2015 surrounded by his loved ones. I know he served during the Korean war but still trying to find such years.
My Grandfather was in the navy on this ship in 1956, but we can only find one picture of him, do you perhaps know anything about a John Sira?
I served aboard the Calvert APA-32 during the years of 1956, ’57. & ’58. Did not see even ONE listed name on here.. (except my own, which I believe the ‘squid’ friend of mine added to this e-mail before sending it to me.) that I knew. Not even the Gunnery officer Graham was listed here. I have tried several times to learn of several of my good buds on the Calvert, ie: John P. Moreno, Will. Alsip, Charles Mann, Chester Bartel, Herald Olson…. (Not to mention Smith, Anderson, Cox, Cayo, Smith… others in the ‘Gun Gang’ 4th Div. ) In attending USS Calvert reunions, I have only met 2 ol’ swabbies I knew aboard ship.
Hi Ivan, Chris here (webmaster of this site). Were you aboard when the Calvert and USS Magoffin collided at sea, circa 1958? If so, can you share any memories or details?
My dad served aboard the USS CALVERT from 1950 to 54 he piloted a landing craft that’s all I know, he never talked about those times. I would sure like to know anything. He passed away 10 31 2019. Thank you. His son Robert.
Does anyone remember Capt Stark?

Chris

Hi Sherry, Thank you for your question and for visiting the website. I will look through my records to see if I can find any more details on your grandfather.
If you haven’t already found this page on the website, and the downloadable document, you might find it of interest as it will provide details for the Calvert and her crew in the early 1950s.
